Times are hard. Hard enough for Sonny Chandler, a copier salesman with a three-state territory, to look for ways to supplement a dwindling income. Breaking and entering – nothing big or elaborate, just some mom-and-pops – seems to fit the bill. Only for a while, though, just ‘til things get better.

He is just coming from his latest score when inattention and a scattering of gravel on a winding mountain road leave him trapped and paralyzed in his car at the bottom of a narrow ravine. Invisible from the road, it is only by luck that the accident – and Sonny – is stumbled upon by a group of kids. With his own history of casual crime, Sonny shouldn’t have been surprised when they see his misfortune as an opportunity.
