ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Daniel Middleton is a chiropractor and martial artist, a practitioner of the Korean martial art of Kuk Sool Won for over thirty years and currently holds the rank of 6th degree black belt (Joo Im Kwan Jang Nym). He has been teaching martial arts in the Upstate area of South Carolina for over twenty-five years.

First beginning martial arts training in 1973 in Charlotte, North Carolina in the southern Chinese system of Li Gar, he discovered the Korean art of Kuk Sool Won in 1976 while attending college at the University of South Carolina. In addition to Kuk Sool Won, he has studied a number of other martial arts, primarily Chinese systems such as Tien Shan Pai, Northern Shaolin, Taiji, Xingyi and Bagua.

In addition to his dedication to martial arts, Dr. Middleton is a published author with a number of articles published in national martial arts magazines and health journals. An avid storyteller, Dr. Middleton has written short stories in a number of different genres, with a 'voice' that weaves all of them together in an easily recognized style characterized by humor and attention to dialogue.

With Dragons of Antioch, Dr. Middleton blends a lifetime of traditional martial arts training with a love of fantasy and adventure to create a 'modern young adult wuxia*' -- the first in a proposed series of novels following four friends on a journey of martial arts adventure and discovery. The second book in the Dragons of Antioch series, The Dragons of Antioch  Book Two: The Five Dragon Sword (which follows the Dragons as they travel back to 6th century Korea on a mission to recover a stolen sword) is nearing completion, with an anticipated release in the summer of 2010. Website will be updated with production details as they become available.

* wuxia - a broad literary genre of Chinese fiction concerned with the exploits of martial heroes of ancient China (although probably best known in the west as a film genre represented by such popular martial arts films as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, House of Flying Daggers and Seven Swords -- all of which come highly recommended for any who haven't seen them)
